The 54th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution is commemorated in Saint Lucia
SAINT LUCIA, January 11th, 2013: With the presence of the Governor General on the island, Dame H.E. Pearlette Louisy, the 54th Anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution was celebrated during an emotional political and cultural activity.
The activity counted on speeches from the Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Philip J. Pierre, who on behalf of the Government of Saint Lucia highlighted the deep ties of friendship and collaboration between our peoples, thanking Cuba and the Cuban Revolution for their solidarity support and gave cheers of “Viva” for the celebration of a new Anniversary. The President of the Friendship Association, Rawle Harvey also gave a speech, which congratulated the arrival of a new Anniversary; highlighting the Cuban Revolution as the most significant action of the twentieth century.
For her part, the Cuban Ambassador on the island, Lydia González Navarro, reiterated our country’s appreciation for the unyielding support received from her sister Caribbean island in the fight against the Blockade, highlighting the importance of friendly ties between both our peoples, at the same time that she emphasized the achievements reached by the Revolution at the end of 2012, resulting from the firmness of the commitment of our people and Government, which has made it possible to resist isolation attempts, a cruel blockade and scourges from nature, among other challenges. The call for solidarity in the battle for the release of our five heroes was the central theme of the Cuban Official’s speech.
As part of the cultural activities scheduled, the documentary by Roberto Chile “Ode to the Revolution” was enjoyed, following which were the performances from a local Steel Band, including “La Guantanamera” among the pieces played and the stellar performance by Saxophonist Luther Francois.
Also present were the President of the Senate, the Ministers of Health, of Sustainable Development, Science and Technology, of Commerce, as well as representatives of the main Political Parties; included were the Leader and President of the Opposition Party, members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited on the island, top officials of the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministries linked to the areas in which Cuban collaboration is being carried out, distinguished intellectuals, members of the Saint Lucia – Cuba Friendship Association, Cuban residents, graduates of Cuba and Cuban Collaborators on the island, among others.
