Minister of Education, Sports and Youth of Tuvalu visits Cuba
Havana, January 11, 2013.- Dr. Faalesa Pitoi, Minister of Education, Sports and Youth of Tuvalu, is currently on a visit to our country, which began on January 7.
Dr. Faalesa, who is accompanied by the Permanent Secretary for Education, Mr Paulson Panapa, visited the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), and held a fruitful exchange with a representation of Tuvaluan students who are studying in Cuba.
Currently, 19 students from Tuvalu are enrolled in Medical Sciences Bachelor Degree in the provinces of Granma, Holguin and Havana, and are part of more than 180 young people from the small Pacific Islands who study medicine and other specialties in our country.
This visit is an indication of the development and expansion of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Tuvalu and Cuba established diplomatic relations on April 26th of 2006 and since then have developed links of cooperation in the field of health and human resources training. (Cubaminrex/DAO)
