Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria Presents Letters of Credence
NIGERIA, December 5, 2011.- The Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E Mr. Hugo Ramos Milanes, presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in a ceremony held in the Presidential Villa.
The Nigerian President while giving the welcome to the Cuban representative said that Cuba and Nigeria since the establishment of diplomatic relations have maintained fraternal political relations and recalled with pleasure that Nigeria has benefited from the Cuban cooperation in various fields, among which emphasized vocational training, particularly in medicine, as well as in the field of sport. He added that both countries have maintained also fluid cultural relations, based on the historical links between both peoples. The Nigerian President also expressed the desire of his Government to strengthen relations of cooperation and identify new areas of bilateral exchange.
The Cuban Ambassador in turn thanked the traditional support of the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the resolution adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations that requires the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the Government of the United States against the Cuban people. He was also the bearer of a letter of invitation addressed to the Nigerian President by the Cuban Presidente H.E Raul Castro Ruz to carry out an official visit to Cuba the date to be determined between the parties through the diplomatic channels.
The ceremony was also attended by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria and by some officials from the Embassy of Cuba in Nigeria. (Cubaminrex-Embacuba Nigeria)
